Developing Sustainable Urban Communities: An Earth Day Celebration in Harlem
April 19, 2007
WE ACT hosted its 2007 Earth Day celebration and annual fundraising event at the International House in Harlem, where we gave out the WE ACT for Environmental Justice Awards. WE ACT presents these awards to individuals and organizations that have made substantial inroads to preserve the natural and built environment and improve environmental health in communities of color.
More than 200 friends and supporters joined WE ACT on April 19, 2007 for this celebratory event. After cocktails accompanied by music from the James Pryor Jazz Ensemble, New York’s Lieutenant Governor David Paterson welcomed guests and launched the festivities. During the ceremony, honorees were recognized for their efforts to bring better environmental quality to the lives of many New Yorkers, especially in communities of color. The event concluded with a live auction emceed by WE ACT’s own Deputy Director Cecil Corbin-Mark.
