2008 WE ACT EARTH DAY FESTIVAL

WE ACT for Environmental Justice, Harlem’s leading advocate for environmental justice for two decades, celebrated the 38th anniversary of Earth Day in a big way.

Our annual Earth Day celebration, Harlem's only outdoor green festival, took place Saturday, April 19, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.  The event was held at the outdoor plaza of the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building on 125th Street.

More than 20 exhibitors gave out information on maintaining personal health and the urban environment, including several city and state departments and activist groups dealing with environmental issues, as well as merchants and restaurants supplying samples of green products and healthy food. Giveaways include green cleaning products, energy efficient light bulbs, canvas tote bags and more.

Face-painting, clowns, a full line-up of live music and other activities entertained children and adults alike. 

WE ACT is most grateful to its committed exhibitors and sponsors, for helping us put on an outstanding celebration of our planet and its needs.  In particular, WE ACT thanks the New York State Office of General Services for supplying the space, Con Edison for donating energy efficient light bulbs, and Earth Day New York and My Green New York for donating canvas bags to be given away.
