Prior to joining WE ACT in April 2010, Charlene spent a year in Tibetan China. There, she was a research coordinator for a National Science Foundation study into grassland degradation and nomadic livelihoods. Her interest in environmental health began in 2005 where she worked with slum residents in Lima, Peru. She graduated from the Ohio State University in 2007 with a BS in Honors Economics and Political Science and spent an additional year studying Sustainable Development at Columbia University. WE ACT's food justice initiative aptly combines Charlene's interests in environmental sustainability and human development through food, a tradition that connects all cultures and peoples. Charlene grew up in Beijing, is a yoga enthusiast, and enjoys studying languages. She urges you to contact her if you too are interested in bringing healthy food options to Northern Manhattan.
