HARLEM, NY — On January 30, 2020, WE ACT for Environmental Justice (WE ACT) will announce the request for applications (RFA) for its Environmental Justice Capacity-Building Grant Program funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This announcement will include a statewide outreach effort to raise awareness of the program and RFA as well as establish an online question submission and information portal at weact.org/grants. WE ACT will award 18 grants – $50,000 each, for a total of $900,000 – to eligible groups throughout New York State.
“We are making this announcement now, ahead of the January kickoff, so that nonprofit organizations will be aware of the grant program and have sufficient time to consider applying,” explained Peggy Shepard, Co-Founder & Executive Director of WE ACT for Environmental Justice. “Grassroots and community-based organizations that are working to achieve environmental justice and sustainability in low-income communities and communities of color in New York State are eligible to apply for grants that will strengthen their administrative, technical, and programmatic capacity.”
In addition posting the RFA, WE ACT plans to host a webinar to review the proposal process in February 2020 along with a finalized Q&A document. We anticipate that the RFAs will be due by the end of March 2020, with the successful applicants announced by the end of June 2020. A complete timeline will be included in the January 30, 2020 RFA announcement.
