WASHINGTON – In response to yesterday’s ruling on Sackett vs. Environmental Protection Agency by the Supreme Court of the United States, WE ACT for Environmental Justice’s Federal Regulatory Affairs Attorney Jasmine Jennings issued the following statement:
“WE ACT for Environmental Justice is deeply disappointed by this week’s Supreme Court ruling on Sackett vs. Environmental Protection Agency. The Court has ONCE AGAIN embraced big polluters’ extreme demands and dramatically narrowed the scope of the Clean Water Act, undoing protections that have safeguarded communities and American waters for more than 50 years. This decision places our communities, public health, and local ecosystems in danger – especially environmental justice communities, which are most burdened by pollution and intensifying climate disasters. Congress and state officials across the country need to act fast to protect water bodies that our nation relies on for drinking, fishing, and fueling local economies.”
