WASHINGTON, DC – Today Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL-6) and Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA-49) introduced the Clean Electricity and Transmission Acceleration Act in an effort to support the buildout of clean energy transmission in the United States. WE ACT for Environmental Justice Federal Regulatory Affairs Manager and Attorney, Jasmine Jennings, responded to the announcement:

“This is the moment to improve environmental and public health conditions in communities of Color or areas of low income by ensuring the grid is reliable and powered by clean, renewable energy. This year we’ve seen Members of Congress attempt to meet the moment with bills that offer speed when the need to consider and center communities is equally as important. In June 2023 WE ACT, in partnership with national environmental organizations, released a white paper that offered thoughtful recommendations on how to meet the growing demand for clean electricity and ensure that communities are not harmed. We are pleased to see that Rep. Casten and Rep. Levin listened and responded to community calls for a strengthened engagement process, installation of experts to facilitate the relationship between communities and project sponsors, and the inclusion of environmental justice considerations in their legislation.”
