WE ACT Endorses John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Senate Majority Leader Schumer (D-NY), and additional cosponsors reintroduced the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. This legislation will restore and modernize the protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to ensure that all Americans are able to participate in the democratic process. WE ACT for Environmental Justice Government Affairs Manager, Astrid DuBois, responded:

“We are proud to endorse the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. In almost every state in America, legislators have drafted hundreds of bills restricting the voting rights of Black and Brown people and youth. We cannot effectively fight the climate crisis, advance environmental justice, and build healthy communities without first ensuring that people of color and/or low income residents participate fully and meaningfully in our democracy. We are calling on Congress to protect our nation’s most basic freedom by swiftly passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.”
