Northern Manhattan CARE Collaborative

As with many low-income urban communities of color, Northern Manhattan is plagued by severe environmental health hazards that compromise the ability of community residents to live long and healthy lives.

WE ACT’s Northern Manhattan Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) Collaborative was a broad-based partnership of stakeholders in Northern Manhattan working to reduce risk from toxic exposures in the community, specifically with relation to solid waste, and pests and pesticides.

Initiated in 2008, the initiative worked to combat this reality through a broad-based group of Northern Manhattan community stakeholders evolving from knowledge to action by understanding toxic risks and environmental pollutant impacts in this community, and addressing them.

Support for this campaign was provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
