Albany Advocacy Day: Climate Education

As the co-leader of the Climate Resilience Education Task Force with the National Wildlife Federation, WE ACT has been working to get climate justice education included as part of the K-12 curriculum in New York State schools. And you can help by joining us (register below) for an Albany Advocacy Day on Wednesday, March 27!

The Bill
We and our fellow task force members are heading up to Albany to meet with legislators and their staff to advocate for our climate justice education bill (S.278A/A.1559A), which would establish a course of instruction and learning expectations on climate education in all of the state’s public elementary and secondary schools. It is the most comprehensive climate education bill ever proposed in New York, and high school students, teachers, college professors, and other education professionals helped draft it. And having you and other members of our community participate in these advocacy meetings will be crucial to convincing them to support this legislation.

The Trip
The bus will depart at 6:30 AM on Wednesday, March 27 from the New York Society for Ethical Culture, which is located at 2 West 64th Street (on the corner of Central Park West). The bus will return to this location around 8:00 PM that same day. And to give you a better understanding of what’s involved in these trips, you can watch this short video.

Prep Zoom
If you are new to lobbying or want to learn more about the bill before going, there will be a virtual prep meeting held via Zoom at 5:00 PM on Monday, March 25.
