Summer Movies: Rubbertown
Join us for a FREE screening of the environmental documentary Rubbertown at 6:00 PM on August 14, 2019 at West Harlem Piers Park (Marginal Street & West 132nd Street). The documentary is about the Rubbertown neighborhood in Louisville, which is home to a toxic landfill, power plant, and several industrial facilities. Facing a cauldron of leaks, spills, and occasional explosions at the nearby facilities along with heightened rates of cancer and respiratory illness in the community, one resident decides that the only way to escape is to literally move her entire house to another county. The film follows her journey and the struggles people must endure when forced to live in a toxic environment.
Before the screening, we’ll be playing environmental justice trivia and giving away WE ACT prizes. Please RSVP if you can join us. And tell your friends!
