Healthy Homes Working Group
When you hear the word environment, most people think of nature, or the wilderness. But when you live in a city, an urban environment, the term takes on a different meaning.
As New Yorkers, our environment may be the park we visit, the block we live on, the office where we work, and the home where we reside. And given the amount of time we spend indoors, our indoor environment – which we refer to as Healthy Homes – is even more critical than the traditional outdoor environment. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, we spend approximately 90 percent of our lives indoors.
Building on WE ACT’s legacy of leadership on the indoor environment, our Healthy Homes Working Group (HHWG) is comprised of WE ACT members working together to identify and implement solutions to improve their indoor environment at the city, state, and federal levels. For example, in preparation for the 2021 New York City mayoral race, our HHWG is working to organize NYCHA residents and build leadership in this community to protect affordable housing and improve living conditions for every NYCHA resident.
The HHWG meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 6:00-7:00 PM. If you would like to get involved, or simply want to learn more, please contact Jaron Burke at jaron@weact.org.
