Tenya Steele

Tenya has a very unique and diverse background in environmental science, research, advocacy and public health education. As the Director of Environmental Health, she continues those efforts through partnerships with various academic research institutions like Columbia University; and also fosters many partnerships with health professionals throughout New York City and abroad. Tenya has a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering and Technology and is currently completing a Doctorate of Public Health at Downstate Medical Center. She recognizes that her background as an African-American female from an underserved community in Brooklyn is vital to her addressing the injustices with environmental exposures and the poor health outcomes faced by communities of color.
