Uptown Chats Beauty Inside Out Panel Discussion – November 2019

On November 13th, 2019, we hosted a special Uptown Chats panel discussion of racial bias in beauty standards, how it results in toxic products being marketed to women of color, and what we can do about it. The discussion advanced our effort to increase awareness of this issue and its impact on communities of color, and set the stage for our advocacy for legislation that will address it. The panel featured (L-R): Freelance Beauty & Lifestyle Writer Blake Newby as the moderator, Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health’s Assistant Professor of Epidemiology Dr. Jasmine McDonald, WE ACT’s Director of Environmental Heath Lubna Ahmed, Follain’s Store Educator Kiana Michaan, and WE ACT’s Director of Federal Legislative Affairs Kerene Tayloe. WE ACT’s Co-Founder & Executive Director Peggy Shepard provided the opening and closing remarks. You can watch a video of the event here (and below).
